HELSINKI, FINLAND — Nordic Moon Press announces the release of The Unbeatable Slow Machine, a new poetry collection by David J. de Young, available worldwide on May 1, 2026.
In this collection, de Young examines the mundane pressures of everyday life—aging, memory, parenthood, and the persistent awareness that time moves only forward, wearing all things down. Drawing on literary tradition as well as scientific thought, the poems blend quotidian experience with the language of astronomy and physics, grounding abstract ideas like entropy in lived experience.
Moving between the American Midwest and Finland, The Unbeatable Slow Machine traces the often-overlooked details that shape a life. The collection shows how meaning can still be found—not in heady answers, but in attention, presence, and the mere act of continuing.

About the Author
David J. de Young is the author of A Flash of Insight and Other Poems (2017). He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from New York University, and his work has appeared in Narrative Magazine, Anthropocene Journal, Consilience, Scribeworth, and other publications. He received the Selden L. Whitcomb Prize in Poetry at Grinnell College and is the founder of the Minnesota-based music website HowWasTheShow.com and NordicMoonPress.
He lives in Finland with his wife, three children, and 1,200 vinyl records.
